Draper is located about 20 miles south of Salt Lake City and has a population just over 40,000 people. Originally the area was used for cattle grazing in the early 19th century and then quickly Draper was established as a settlement. Eventually a post office was built and the farms began to specialize in poultry and was knows as the “Egg Basket of Utah”. The climate of the area is very similar to Salt Lake City but it does have one special weather anomaly. It has some of the best wind areas in the country making it a hot spot for Paragliding and hang gliding. The weather consists of all four season so be sure to dress accordingly!

The area is also home to 1-800 Contacts and it was the first place in Utah to have an Ikea. Draper has an unemployment rate below the national average at 3.2 percent making it a great place to find a job and raise a family. Draper Elementary School is one of the highest rated elementary schools in Utah. If you are looking for a good middles school look no further than Draper Park Middle School. For high schools check out Corner Canyon High School. The area is composed of two different school districts so be sure to check both out. The Jordan District has a combined total of 102 schools and The Canyon District has 53. There are plenty of options for all ages of children. Draper has tons of shopping, dining, parks and recreational activities. It’s inclusion in to Salt Lake City proper makes it a great place to live and explore for that big city experience without the big city hassle. During the warm summers spend a day at the Cowabunga Bay Water Park or hike in American Fork Canyon. Spend a day exploring The Timpanogos Cave system or visit one of the many breweries in town. Wardle Fields Regional Park always has something going on.

If you are looking for something more fancy check out Ying’s Tai-Sushi. A hidden gem is a deli called Pirate O’s. You have to try a sandwich from there.
